Biography

Ryley was edu­cat­ed at Tri­ni­ty Col­lege, Ox­ford (BA 1889, BMus 1891, MA 1894).

He was or­dained a dea­con in 1892, and priest in 1894, and served at ma­ny lo­ca­tions:

• Assistant cur­ate at West­bourne, Sus­sex (1892–95)
• Second Mas­ter, at St. Mi­chael’s Col­lege, and as­sist­ant cur­ate at St. Mi­chael and All An­gels, Ten­bury, Wor­ces­ter­shire (1895–96)
• Minor can­on of Glou­ces­ter Ca­thed­ral and as­sist­ant cur­ate of St. Ca­the­rine’s, Glou­ces­ter (1896–1900)
• Minor ca­non of Can­ter­bu­ry (1900–11)
• Rector of Stod­marsh, Kent (1909–11)
• Vicar of East Peck­ham, Ton­bridge, Kent (1911–29)
• Domestic chap­lain to the Bi­shop of Ro­ches­ter (1929–31)
• Fellow of St. Mi­chael’s, Ten­bu­ry (1917)
• Honorary ca­non of Ro­ches­ter (1930)
