Biography

Samantha was the daugh­ter of Rus­sell Giles Whip­ple and Mary Al­len, and wife of Will­iam John Shoup, a class­mate of hers at Knox Col­lege, Gales­burg, Il­li­nois (mar­ried about 1870).

In 1910, she was liv­ing in In­di­an­apo­lis, In­di­ana, ac­cord­ing to an ar­ti­cle she wrote for The In­de­pen­dent, vol­ume 69, Ju­ly-De­cem­ber 1910, page 114.

She was al­so list­ed in In­di­ana Au­thors, by Min­nie Ol­cott Will­iams (In­di­an­apo­lis, In­di­ana: Bobbs-Mer­rill, 1916).

A let­ter in the At­lan­tic Month­ly (vol­ume 130, page 575), stat­ed she was in San Jose, Ca­li­for­nia, in 1922.
