Biography

A po­et, mu­si­cian, teach­er, re­form­er, writ­er, Bi­ble schol­ar and apo­lo­gist, Si­mon wrote around 300 de­votion­al songs or po­ems, and around 30 books.

A na­tive Ma­lay­al­am speak­er, he was li­ter­ate in Sans­krit and Ta­mil, and al­so mas­tered Eng­lish, Hin­du­sta­ni, Te­lu­gu, Kan­na­da, Greek, La­tin, He­brew, and Sy­ri­ac. He was giv­en the ti­tle Ma­ha­ka­vi (Dean of Po­ets) by the Sa­hit­ya Par­ish­ad (Aca­de­my of Li­te­ra­ture).

He was al­so a pro­mi­nent lead­er of the Breth­ren move­ment in In­dia.
