Biography

Elizabeth was the daugh­ter of Da­vid Prince and So­phia Blan­chard, and wife of Se­ba Smith (mar­ried 1823).

She is re­mem­bered as a po­et, fic­tion writ­er, ed­it­or, lec­tur­er, and wo­men’s rights ac­ti­vist. She was al­so the first wo­man write an account of climb­ing Mount Ka­tah­din, the high­est mountain in Maine.
