Biography

DeLoss was the son of Will­iam Smith and Sar­ah Lou­isa Se­verns, and hus­band of Flor­ence M. Red­grave.

He at­tend­ed Eu­re­ka Col­lege, Eu­re­ka, Il­li­nois. He moved to New York Ci­ty in 1907. He served as di­rec­tor of mu­sic at Cen­tral Church, New York Ci­ty, and at Cen­tral Church, Des Moines, Io­wa.

He joined the mu­sic fa­cul­ty at Co­lum­bia Uni­ver­si­ty, and in 1915 be­came dean at the School of Mu­sic at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Mon­ta­na at Mis­sou­la.
