Biography

Frank was the son of Will­iam Os­car Stamps and Flor­ence Cor­ine Ros­ser, and bro­ther of Vir­gil Stamps. He mar­ried twice, to Rho­da Mae San­ders and Ma­ry Na­omi (Sallie) Marks (1931).

He found­ed the Frank Stamps Qua­rtet in 1924. It be­came the first south­ern Gos­pel group on a with a ma­jor la­bel, when it signed a re­cord­ing con­tract with RCA Vic­tor in 1927. The quar­tet al­so pro­duced the first Gos­pel hit sin­gle, with Give the World a Smile.
