Died: June 30, 1897, at her bro­ther So­lo­mon’s home in Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois.

Buried: La­Ot­to, In­di­ana.

Biography

Maria was the daugh­ter of Jo­seph Straub, and sis­ter of So­lo­mon Straub.

In ad­di­tion to hymns, she wrote tem­per­ance songs, such as For Mo­ther’s Sake I Will Re­frain and Fight the Bat­tle at the Polls (cam­paign song of the Pro­hi­bi­tion Home Pro­tect­ion Party).
