Stults’ hymn Hark the Sound was writ­ten in 1897, and pub­lished in Dan­ville, Penn­syl­van­ia, in 1898.

Wikipedia and Find­agrave both re­cord a com­pos­er named Ro­bert Mor­ris­on Stults, with a life­span of 1861–1933. If the 1923 death year for the R. M. Stults in the Hym­nary is a ty­po for 1923, R. M. Stults and Ro­bert Morr­ison Stults are like­ly the same per­son.
