Biography

Hjalmar was the son of Aar­on and Lou­isa Sund­quist, and hus­band of Car­ol Sund­quist.

Emigrating to Am­eri­ca at age 20, he at­tend­ed Knox Col­lege, Gal­es­burg, Il­li­nois, and the Chi­ca­go Theo­lo­gic­al Sem­ina­ry.

He served pas­tor­ates at the Cov­en­ant Church in Gales­burg (1891–97), and First Cov­en­ant Church, St. Paul, Min­ne­so­ta, un­til 1905.

He ed­it­ed the Swed­ish news­pa­per Vec­ko­blad­et for five years, then moved to Wash­ing­ton state af­ter de­vel­op­ing health prob­lems.

He raised ap­ples there, and taught Sun­day School at the First Pres­by­ter­ian Church in Ya­ki­ma.
