Biography

Emma was he daugh­ter of John Les­lie, Bi­shop of El­phin and Kil­more, and wife of Ni­cho­las Toke, God­ing­ton, Ash­ford, Kent (mar­ried 1837).

Her ear­ly hymns were writ­ten in 1851, at the re­quest of a friend who was col­lect­ing for the Com­mit­tee of the SPCK [So­cie­ty for Pro­mot­ing Chris­tian Know­ledge].

She con­trib­ut­ed an­oth­er ser­ies of hymns to the Sun­day School Li­tur­gy…and Hymn Book, Ar­ranged by the Rev. R. Judd, B.A., In­cum­bent of St. Ma­ry’s, Ha­li­fax (Ha­li­fax: F. King, 1870).
