Trembath played the organ at St. John’s, Truro, Cornwall (1862–69), and graduated from New College, Oxford, in 1869. While at Oxford he was friends with Frederick Gore-Ouseley and John Stainer. He then served as organist at St. Mary’s, Truro (1869–74), and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists (Honoria Causa) in 1875. He went on to become the organist and choirmaster at St. John’s Church, Isleworth, Middlesex (1874–1907). He also studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Sterndale Bennett and Macfarren.
