Tuckerman stu­died mu­sic un­der Charles Zeu­ner in Bos­ton, and in 1840 be­came or­gan­ist and choir mas­ter at St. Paul’s Epis­co­pal Church there. He stu­died ca­thed­ral mu­sic in Eng­land for four years, re­turn­ing to Bos­ton in 1853. He went to Eng­land again in 1856, this time stay­ing un­til 1864, as well as spend­ing sev­er­al years in Switz­er­land. His works in­clude:
