Died: March 18, 1908, at his home in Cam­den, Maine.

Buried: For­est Hills Ce­me­te­ry and Cre­ma­to­ry, Ja­mai­ca Plain, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

Biography

John was the hus­band of Har­ri­et Syl­ves­ter and Ali­ce Cush­ing.

He stu­died pi­ano and mu­sic the­ory at the Leip­zig Con­ser­va­tory (1847-48). Lat­er, he was an or­gan­ist and cho­ral con­duct­or in Ban­gor, Maine, then moved to Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts, and taught at Ben­ja­min F. Baker’s Bos­ton Mu­sic School (1860–75).
