Biography

Ame was the son of Ame Wes­sels Ven­ne­ma and Elis­a­beth Van­der Haar, and hus­band of Hen­ri­et­ta La Febre.

He at­tend­ed Hope Col­lege, Hol­land, Mi­chi­gan (gra­du­at­ed 1879), and New Bruns­wick Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry (gra­du­at­ed 1882).

After mar­ry­ing Hen­ri­et­ta, they went to New Paltz, New York, where he be­gan his ca­reer as a pas­tor. He ev­en­tu­al­ly served churches in Kal­a­ma­zoo, Mi­chi­gan; Port Jer­vis, New York; and Pas­sa­ic, New Jer­sey.

He joined the Coun­cil of Hope Col­lege in 1905, and in 1911 was elect­ed pre­si­dent of the col­lege. He was inau­gu­rat­ed in 1913 and served un­til 1918.
