Daniel was the son of Bristol businessman Daniel Wait and Mary Jago. He married twice, to Priscilla Morgan Thorne (1814, Westbury-on-Trym, north Bristol), and Eliza Wylde (1819, Burrington, Somerset).
He matriculated at University College, Oxford, in 1809, and completed his studies at St. John’s College, Cambridge (LLB 1819, LLD 1824).
He served as curate at Whitchurch, Pucklechurch (near Bristol), and Marshfield, and in 1819 became rector of Blagdon, Somerset.
He was known as a writer and Hebrew scholar.
