Walmisley became the organist at Croydon (1830); of Trinity and St. John’s Colleges, Cambridge (1833); and Professor of Music at Cambridge (1836), having composed his anthem Let God Arise for his MusB degree.
He earned his BA in 1838, MA 1841, and MusD 1848.
