A fourth generation descendant of British Indian army officers, Warmingham lived in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India, until he was 21 years old.
He earned his AB degree at the University of Wisconsin (1914); taught philosophy at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts; studied philosophy and theology at Oxford University; and earned a Doctorate in Divinity from Carroll College.
