Biography

Charles was the son of Cor­ne­li­us Coll­ins Wash­burn and Iso­ra Eli­za­beth Blades, and hus­band of Min­nie Mor­gan (mar­ried 1900).

He stu­died voice in Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, gra­du­at­ed from the Cin­cin­na­ti [Ohio] Con­ser­va­tory, and did gra­du­ate work at Van­der­bilt Uni­ver­si­ty, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see.

In 1906, he moved to Bel­mont Col­lege (now Bel­mont Uni­ver­si­ty) in Nash­ville, and in 1913 be­came Dean of the Voice De­part­ment at Ward-Bel­mont Col­lege in Nash­ville.

As of 1928, he was a pro­fess­or of church mu­sic at Scar­ritt Col­lege for Chris­tian Work­ers, Nash­ville (now the Scar­ritt Ben­nett Cen­ter).
