Biography

Watson stu­died mu­sic at a Ca­tho­lic con­vent, then be­gan play­ing the or­gan at St. Pe­ter’s Epis­co­pal Ca­thed­ral in Char­lotte­town.

He stu­died me­di­cine at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Edin­burgh for a short while, but re­turned to his first love, mu­sic.

He had var­ied ad­di­tion­al in­ter­ests, in­clud­ing paint­ing and bo­ta­ny (he dis­co­vered a spe­cies of vio­let which was named af­ter him). Also, to­ge­ther with Lu­cy Maude Mont­go­me­ry, au­thor of Anne of Green Ga­bles, he wrote The Is­land Hymn (i.e., Prince Ed­ward Is­land).
