Biography

Whately at­tend­ed Or­i­el Col­lege, Oxford (BA 1808, MA 1812, BD & DD 1825), and was or­dained an Anglican priest in 1814.

He was Bamp­ton Lec­tur­er in 1822, be­came prin­ci­pal of St. Alban Hall, Ox­ford, in 1825, and bi­shop of Dub­lin, Ire­land, in 1831.

He was a mem­ber of the Roy­al Ir­ish Aca­de­my and the House of Lords (1833).
