Biography

Edwin was the son of Shad­rach Ni­cho­las Wink­ler. He mar­ried twice: to Ab­by Tur­ner Howe (1846) and Ro­sa Cor­nel­ia Burck­my­er (Sep­tem­ber 1859).

He was edu­cat­ed at Cha­tham Acad­emy, Brown Uni­ver­si­ty (gra­du­at­ed 1843) and New­ton Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry.

While pas­tor of the First Bap­tist Church in Co­lum­bus, Georgia, he helped ed­it The Chris­tian In­dex. He lat­er served at the First Bap­tist Church in Al­ba­ny, Georg­ia, and in Gil­li­son­ville, South Ca­ro­li­na.

He was also cor­res­pond­ing sec­re­ta­ry of the South­ern Bap­tist Pub­li­ca­tion So­ci­ety (1852) and ed­it­or of the South­ern Bap­tist of South Ca­ro­li­na.
