Biography

Woodman as­sist­ed Lo­well Ma­son when Ma­son first taught in the pub­lic schools of Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

He was al­so a bro­ther-in-law of George Root, and helped Root and Mason with their first Nor­mal In­sti­tute in New York in 1853. His son Ray­mond was an ac­comp­lished mu­si­cian as well.

Woodman ev­en­tu­al­ly moved to Brook­lyn, New York, and played the or­gan at the First Pres­by­te­ri­an Church and Pack­er Col­le­gi­ate In­sti­tute.
