Wyrtzen said that while he was a trombonist in a dance orchestra in the 1930s, he read the Bible and decided to dedicate his life to Christ.
He eventually began preaching on the radio, and founded the Word of Life
youth rallies, which were often held in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
He also founded the Word of Life Inn, Island Ranch and Bible Institute at Schroon Lake, New York.
