Born: January 1, 1484, Wildhaus, Toggenburg valley, Switzerland (about seven miles from the Liechtenstein border).
Died: October 11, 1531, in the Battle of Kappel.
Not surprisingly, Zwingli was entangled in the theological and political disputes of the day, and more than once served as a chaplain to Swiss military forces.
Zwingli composed one of his best known pieces after he caught the plague in September 1519 in Zürich. Written as a poem, it has been adapted as a hymn, known as Zwingli’s Pestlied.
