Awake, thou guil­ty world, awake,
Whom God doth by His judg­ments shake,
And to the dread tri­bun­al come!
Jesus on earth erects His seat,
And cites you here your doom to meet,
Type of your ev­er­last­ing doom:

Avenger of His slight­ed laws,
His Gos­pel and His peo­ple’s cause,
In right­eous wrath im­plac­able,
The Lord with sword and fire shall plead,
Throughout the world de­struct­ion spread,
And sweep His slaugh­tered foes to hell.
