Faithful peoÂple, now reÂjoice,
Loud your praise reÂsoundÂing;
Come with thankÂful heart and voice,
Fervent zeal aboundÂing.
Onward, onÂward to the goal,
Jesus goes beÂfore us;
Come, O come! each ranÂsomed soul
Sound on high the chorÂus.
We are solÂdiers of the Cross,
Ours the old, old stoÂry;
Counting all our gain as loss,
But the gain for gloÂry.
In the path our faÂthers trod
With their faith unÂswervÂing;
Heroes of the Church of God—
So would we be servÂing.
Though around on evÂery hand
Satan’s hosts assail us,
We’ve a capÂtain in comÂmand
Who will neÂver fail us;
Fierce may rage the batÂtle strife,
Nothing shall alarm us;
Pressing to eterÂnal life
Not a shaft shall harm us.
As we raise our marÂtial song,
Courage ne’er abÂatÂing,
Angel bands, a hoÂly throng,
On our steps awaitÂing.
Soon the journey will be o’er,
Passed each dark afÂflictÂion;
Let us think how JeÂsus bore
Scourge and cruÂciÂfixÂion.
See the heav’nÂly manÂsions bright
Faithful hope adornÂing;
Far behind us looms the night,
But beÂfore the mornÂing.
Onward, onÂward to the goal,
Jesus goes beÂfore us;
Come, O come! each ranÂsomed soul
Sound on high the chorÂus.
