Humbly we adore
Thee, the King of glo­ry,
And Thy grace im­plore.
By Thy blood re­deem­èd,
We Thy ser­vants pray,
Spare us; Thou, O Je­su,
Tak’st our sins away.

By Thine un­known sor­rows,
Mercy we en­treat;
Sinners yet are wel­come
At their Sav­ior’s feet.
Lord, with tears re­pent­ing,
We our guilt be­wail,
For we know Thy mer­cy,
Lord, can ne­ver fail.

By Thy wounds and bruis­es,
By Thy cross and grave,
Us in all our sor­rows,
Jesu! hear and save.
By Thine ex­al­ta­tion
Far above all height,
Evermore de­fend us,
Lord of pow­er and might!

In all tri­bu­la­tion,
In our day of peace;
Whensoe’er up­on us
Earthly joys in­crease;
When Thy voice shall call us,
To the si­lent tomb;
When the world shall wak­en,
To its day of doom.
