Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11
Words: Arthur F. M. Custance, in The Church Hymnal Revised, edited by Charles L. Hutchins (Boston, Massachusetts: Parish Choir, 1920), number 652.
Music: Tokelau, ancient Herefordshire tune (🔊 pdf nwc).
Long years ago, on Christmas morn
The Savior of mankind was born;
And angels caroled at His birth,
Good will to men; peace on the earth.
Now after years of gloom and strife,
The Christ Child brings us love and life,
Bids hatred end and warfare cease
In world-wide brotherhood and peace.
O Holy Child, this Christmas morn,
Once more within our hearts be born.
Blest angels, chant your songs again,
On earth be peace, goodwill to men.
