O Seed of David, Son of God,
Thou from eternity
Were born to bear our curse as one
That hangeth on a tree.

For grace on earth could not prevail
Nor peace with man be made,
’Till sin’s full price to rend the veil
At Calvary was paid.

Lo, crushed that Seed in earth was placed,
But rose a Holy Vine;
A Tree of Life replete with grace
And mercy for mankind.

How blest that hour of brokenness
When mercy heard my plea,
To save me from my guilt and sin—
To hang my soul in Thee.
