Ye saints of God, awake,
And hear the hea­ven­ly word:
Depart not from the liv­ing God,
He on­ly is thy Lord.

What if the fin­est gold
Be free­ly prof­fered thee?
Depart not from the liv­ing God,
Nor the temp­ta­tion see.

What if the foe arise,
With threat­en­ings false and loud?
Depart not from the li­ving God,
Rather, ac­cept the cloud.

And what if friends be­guile
With soft­est, warm­est love?
Depart not from the liv­ing God,
Who warns thee from above.

Depart, ye saints, de­part
Not from the liv­ing God.
He will thy shield and buck­ler be;
He will be, is thy rod.
