Christoph was first cousin of Johann Ambrosius Bach, father of Johann Sebastian Bach.
He was appointed organist at the Arnstadt court chapel in 1663, and at the Georgenkirche, Eisenach, in 1665. In 1700, he became court musician for the Duke of Eisenach .
