Born: March 21, 1685, Eis­en­ach, Ger­ma­ny.

Died: Ju­ly 28, 1750, Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny. His last words, said to his wife, were re­port­ed to be, Weine nicht für mich, denn ich gehe da­hin, wo Mu­sik ge­bor­en wird (Do not weep for me, for I am go­ing to where mu­sic is born.)

Buried: Orig­in­al­ly, in the ce­me­te­ry at St. John’s Church in Leip­zig; in 1900, his re­mains were moved to a crypt in­side the church. The church was des­troyed in World War II, so in 1949, he was re-in­terred in Leip­zig’s St. Tho­mas Church.

Biography

Bach was the son of Jo­hann Am­bro­si­us Bach and Ma­ria Elis­abeth Läm­mer­hirt, and fa­ther of Karl Phil­ipp Eman­uel Bach and Jo­hann Christ­ian Bach (the The Lon­don Bach). He mar­ried twice, to Ma­ria Bar­ba­ra Bach, his cou­sin (1707), and An­na Mag­da­le­na Wilck­en (1721).
