Biography

Clarice was the daugh­ter of Jas­per Nicanor How­ard and Fran­ces Eli­za­beth Igou, and hus­band of Jes­se Bax­ter (mar­ried June 23, 1918).

She at­tend­ed sing­ing schools in Georg­ia, and taught school for a while. She be­came Pre­si­dent and Ge­ne­ral Ma­na­ger of the Stamps-Bax­ter Mu­sic and Print­ing Com­pa­ny af­ter her hus­band’s death in 1960.

She was in­duct­ed in­to the Gos­pel Mu­sic As­so­cia­tion Hall of Fame in 1981, and South­ern Gos­pel Mu­sic As­so­cia­tion Hall of Fame in 1997.
