Biography

Videt was the son of John Jeff Polk and Lo­la Eli­za­beth Sin­gle­ta­ry.

He is re­mem­bered as a sing­ing school teach­er.

He was pre­si­dent of the Ala­ba­ma-Lou­isi­ana-Mis­sis­sip­pi Tri-State Sing­ing Con­ven­tion in Bo­ga­lu­sa, Lou­isi­ana (47 years), the Ar­kan­sas-Tex­as Sing­ing Con­ven­tion (25 years), and the Na­tion­al Sing­ing Con­ven­tion (5 years). He was the found­er and pre­si­dent of the Gos­pel Sing­ers of Am­er­ica School of Mu­sic in Pass Chris­tian, Mis­sis­sip­pi.

He al­so or­gan­ized the 1967 Gov­er­nor’s Sing­ing in Ba­ton Rouge, Lou­isi­ana, an event which drew 50,000.

He was part own­er of the Stamps-Bax­ter mu­sic pub­lish­ers, and com­piled a num­ber of song books for them and Zon­der­van.
