Videt was the son of John Jeff Polk and Lola Elizabeth Singletary.
He is remembered as a singing school teacher.
He was president of the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi Tri-State Singing Convention in Bogalusa, Louisiana (47 years), the Arkansas-Texas Singing Convention (25 years), and the National Singing Convention (5 years). He was the founder and president of the Gospel Singers of America School of Music in Pass Christian, Mississippi.
He also organized the 1967 Governor’s Singing
in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, an event which drew 50,000.
He was part owner of the Stamps-Baxter music publishers, and compiled a number of song books for them and Zondervan.
