Samuel was the son of Woodford T. Beazley and Belle Deria Wright, and husband of Mary Lorena Garner.
He wrote over 4,000 songs, and taught in singing schools for a decade, as well as five years at Shenandoah College in Winchester, Virginia. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1992.
