Andreas was the son of Carl Peter Berggreen and Johanne Dorothea Lynge, and husband of Dorothea Frederikke Wettergren (married March 7, 1828, Vor Frue Parish, Copenhagen, Denmark).
He studied law, but eventually pursued a career in music, studying under Christopher Weyse. In 1838, he became the organist at Trinitatis Kirke in Copenhagen.
In 1843, he was teaching singing at the Metropolitanskolen, and in 1859, he became a song inspector.
