Biography

James was the son of George J. and Re­bec­ca A. Bit­ler.

Bitler gra­du­at­ed from Ohio Wes­ley­an Uni­ver­si­ty around 1870. He be­came a well known ev­an­gel­ist, liv­ing at lo­ca­tions in Ohio, In­di­ana, Il­li­nois, Mis­so­uri, and Ne­bras­ka.

He served va­ri­ous pas­tor­ates, inc­lud­ing the Wes­ley Cha­pel (lat­er the Cen­tral Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Church), Co­lum­bus, Ohio. At the time of death, he was pas­tor of the First Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Church in Ham­den, Ohio.
