Around 1859, Blandner was organist at the Cuthbert Baptist Church, Cuthbert, Georgia, and music director of the Bethel Female College. When the American civil war began in 1861, he enlisted in the army.
In 1898, Blandner’s sister donated funds to install an organ in the church in honor of Charles, with a bronze plaque reading, In memory of Charles F. Blandner, of Philadelphia, by his sister, Helena F. Blandner.
