Body was educated at St. John’s College, Cambridge (BA 1862, MA 1876). In 1885, he received an honorary DD degree from Durham University.
He served as curate of St. James, Wednesbury (1863–65); Sedgley (1865–67); Christ Church, Wolverhampton (1867–70); rector of Kirby-Misperton (1870–74); canon of Durham and Missioner of the Diocese (1883); and proctor for the Archdeaconry of Cleveland (1880–85).
