Mary was the grand­daugh­ter of Bi­shop Sa­mu­el But­ler of Lich­field, and daugh­ter of Tho­mas But­ler, some­time Rec­tor of Lan­gar, Not­ting­ham­shire, and Pre­ben­da­ry of Lin­coln Ca­thed­ral.
