William was the son of John Wall Callcott and Elizabeth Mary Hutchins.
He studied music under his father and his brother-in-law William Horsley. He composed a great deal for the pianoforte, and also glees, songs and anthems.
He was for a time organist at Ely Place Chapel, then at St. Barnabas’ Church, Kensington, London, for 16 years.
