Myrtle was the daughter of Dr. Charles Koon.
She attended the Detroit Training School of Elocution and English Literature. She founded and directed the Grand Rapids School of Elocution (1886–90).
She was the society editor and music critic for the Grand Rapids Evening Press for 12 years, and composed a body of piano music.
