Biography

Wilbur was the son of James J. Chris­ty and Mar­ga­ret Hunt­er, and hus­band of Isa­bel­la Kink­ley­side.

He at­tend­ed the Nor­mal Music School at Ge­ne­seo, New York. He had an out­stand­ing ten­or voice, and was en­cour­aged to pur­sue an op­era­tic ca­reer.

After meet­ing J. G. Tow­ner, they held con­ven­tions and con­cert tours in Penn­syl­vania and New York. He al­so stu­died with J. G. Webb, George F. Root, and George Mc­Far­ren.

He be­came di­rect­or and teach­er at the Na­tion­al Nor­mal In­sti­tute, Le­ba­non, Ohio, where George Root was prin­ci­pal.
