Biography

John was the son of Will­iam Clu­ett and Ann By­wa­ter, and hus­band of Eli­za­beth (Liz­zie) Bon­te­cou.

He emi­grat­ed to Am­er­ica with his fa­mi­ly in 1850. In 1857, he be­gan work­ing in his fa­ther’s book and pi­ano store in Troy, New York.

He al­so worked at va­ri­ous time for Maull­in & Blanch­ard, a shirt and col­lar ma­nu­fac­tur­er (lat­er re­named to George B. Clue­tt & Bro­thers).
