Violante was the daughter of Manoel da Silveira Montesino and Helena of Avila.
In 1630, she became a nun and entered the convent of Nossa Senhora da Rosa in Lisbon.
She is remembered for her baroque poetry, and has been called the Tenth Muse of Portugal.
In 1949, the Lisbon Municipal Council named a street for her near Avenida da Igreja in Alvalade.
