Edwards was close­ly as­so­ci­at­ed with the li­ter­ary pro­duct­ions of the Cal­vin­is­tic Me­tho­dists. He was for ma­ny years ed­it­or of their ma­ga­zine and re­views.

He ed­it­ed a de­no­mi­na­tion­al hym­nal in 1840, for which he wrote sev­er­al hymns, and pub­lished a vol­ume of mor­al and sac­red songs in 1855.
