Biography

Ela gra­du­at­ed from Wes­ley­an Uni­ver­si­ty with hon­ors in 1857, and en­tered the Am­eri­can Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal min­is­try in 1860.

In 1876, he earned his Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty de­gree from Corn­ell Uni­ver­si­ty, Ith­aca, New York.

For two years he was prin­ci­pal of the East Green­wich Se­mi­na­ry.
