Born: Ap­ril 11, 1832, St. Jo­seph Coun­ty, Mi­chi­gan.

Died: Au­gust 14, 1874, Lu­zerne Coun­ty, Penn­syl­van­ia (drowned in a boat­ing ac­ci­dent on the Sus­que­han­na Ri­ver).

Buried: Spring Grove Ce­me­te­ry, Cin­cin­na­ti, Ohio. This ce­me­te­ry is al­so the rest­ing place of W. How­ard Doane, who com­posed the mu­sic for Fish­er’s Je­sus the Way.

Biography

Fisher was the son of Dr. James C. Fish­er and Eli­za Sparks, and hus­band of Au­re­lia Staf­ford Cross­ette, daugh­ter of min­is­ter Ro­bert Cros­sette (mar­ried 1856).

During the Am­eri­can ci­vil war, Fish­er was a co­lo­nel in the 13th Ohio Na­tion­al Guard: In Jas­per and Gold, ed­it­ed by Tul­li­us C. O’Kane (Cin­cin­na­ti, Ohio: Hitch­cock & Wal­den, 1877), page 139, his name is shown with the ti­tle Col. (Colonel).

An at­tor­ney, he al­so served as Uni­ted Com­miss­ion­er of Pa­tents (1869–70).
