Educated at Balliol College, Oxford, Fletcher served as assistant master at Rugby School (1894–1903), master of Marlborough College (1903–11) (the first layman to hold that post), and headmaster of Charterhouse, Godalming (1911–35).
He was knighted for his distinguished career.
