James was the son of James Flint and Lydia Harriet DeBlois.
He graduated from Harvard College in 1802.
In 1806 he became pastor of a Unitarian Church in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and of East Church, Salem, in 1821.
In 1820, Flint contributed one hymn to Sewell’s New York Collection. He also published:
